Flicker Flashback to HBDA 35th Anniversary & Founders' Ball
Since you "like" Eugene & Harriet's performance in the 35th Anniversary & Founders' Ball showcase, here's a Flicker Flashback of the other performers. HBDA put on a top notch showcase with performances by Eugene & Harriet (American Waltz), Logan & June (International Waltz), Oscar & Dorothy (International Tango), Stanley & Evelyn (International Rumba), Michael & Darlene (International Waltz), and Benny & Faith (Romantic Bolero). The Can Can Dance choreographed by Eugene was a good addition to the show.
(Showcase performance can be viewed on Facebook Dancers, and Facebook HBDA here Dancing Begins)
DRD Neon Lights 2011- The Call of Broadway
A Flicker Flashback to one of the best and entertaining showcase of 2011.
Divino Ritmo "Neon Lights" The Call of Broadway
Divino Ritmo Dance Grand Ball 2011 got underway on Saturday night at the Sheraton Waikiki's Molokai & Lanai Ballrooms. Billed as "Neon Lights, The Call of Broadway, the very well put together show was awesome to the max...electrifying and for the most part very entertaining. The colorful costumes, the glamour, the dancers, the lightings, the music, the props (mustn't forget the long white limo)....I gotta say, "WOW! This is Broadway!" The dance floor was the main stage and like the pauses between each act of a stageshow, there was darkness that instilled a feeling of mystery before the spotlight revealed the actors/dancers.
There were two Acts nicely spaced apart which gave moments for general dancing in between. There were some added features to both Acts that included the Divino Ritmo Dance Studio Formation Team, a dance exhibition by Professionals Lucas Jaime and Yanna Samkova, a formation dance by the Divino Ritmo Dance Novice Ensemble, and a solo Jazz dance to "All That Jazz". There were so many participants in this exciting Broadway Show that I couldn't get all their names. But kudos to all of them for an excellent performance in dance showmanship. I hope the proverbial words of "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words" will display the high energy performance of the participating dancers.

USA Dance Monthly Social and Showcase
Last night (Friday Jan. 10) USA Dance hosted their monthly social dance at the Ala Wai Palladium. Lani and I were invited as guests of Ravi and Synthia.
Unfortunately it was a strong windy and rainy night for car riding. So "lonsome rider" me braved the weather and treked to the Palladium without my side kick Lani.
Got to the Palladium about 7:30 and was greeted by friends Gayle Kawahakui. and Ed Matsuda when I got to the top of the stairs. Inside the ballroom dancers were moving to the rhythm of the music played by DeeJay Synthia.
I was in line to check in at the Reception Table but the lovelies at the table gave me a friendly waved to just go in.
The dance Showcase started at 7:45 with EmCee Ed Matsuda welcoming all the dancers to the USA Dance monthly dance and announcing the special performance for the evening.
First on the agenda was Ravi Narayan and daughter Prita performing the American Smooth Viennese Waltz. Prita is currently a student at the University of Minnesota and competes on her University Ballroom Team. (You can watch the video of their performance at Facebook.com (Dancers).
Social dancing resumed after the Showcase. A big mahalo to Ravi and Synthia for inviting Lani and me to the USA Dance monthly social, and to Ed Matsuda for sharing his program notes with me.
Happy Dancing everyone!
