Aloha Dance Club 42nd Anniversary Ball

Aloha Dancers,
Lani and I were honored last Saturday by invitation from Aloha Dance Club President Gordon Wong to attend the Aloha Dance Club 42nd Anniversary Ball as his guests.
Lani and I got to the Palladium about seven-ish. Most of the guests were already in the full ballroom dancing to the Henry Lee's best selection of dance music. I gotta admit, the music was on beat with the slow and upbeat on the fast tempo ones. Only a few guests were enjoying their bento on the lanai just outside of the ballroom when we got there.
We were greeted at the ballroom entrance by Diana Ako, who directed Lani and me to the Reception Table to pick up the tickets that Gordon Wong had left for us. Yes! the tickets came with bento, too.

Most of the chairs were gone from the rack. Auwe! So it was a matter of hunting for a couple of seats before heading for the dance floor. Deanie Bates, President of Aiea Ballroom Dance Association, and Bert Burgess were so nice to make room for us. It was a good seating area but that was short-lived when our host Gordon Wong came and told Lani and me that seats were reserved for us at the VIP section.

General Dancing went on till it was Show Time. EmCee for the program was Diana Ako.

Opening the Showcase were Gayle Kawahakui and Bob Bosley dancing the West Coast Swing with some cool moves and with a touch of Night Club Style.

It's becoming more of a norm now with having a vocalist sing a few tunes at Dance Showcases. Tonight, the beautiful voice of Wendy Wong (wife of Aloha Dance Club President Gordon Wong) echoed throughout the full ballroom with "Shanghai Bund", and "Beautiful Dreamer".

I gotta say this couple were having fun dancing the Cha Cha. They were so connected with their combination of moves that their performance was very enjoyable to watch.

I thought Larry and Sharon danced magnificently on the Waltz. Their combination of movements were smooth and fluid that they flowed from one combination to the other.

Concluding the Showcase were Calvin and Debra Ota dancing the fast Quickstep with style, chemistry, and precision and with a bit of showmanship at the beginning and ending of the dance.

At "Curtain Call", each Showcase Performer received an award from Gladys Lee.

The Snowball Dance soon followed with the Showcase Performers starting the "ball" rolling.
General dancing continued till closing at 9:30 PM.
Many thanks to Gordon Wong for inviting Lani and me as his guests.
